Annual Blood Bath Bowl

Once a year the Chief and Petty Officers’ Mess would challenge the Officers’ Wardroom to their annual football game, called the Blood Bath, (see challenge from 1977 below). This game was played one Sunday in the fall and though this was a good spirited game, there were injuries, and maybe some frustrations taken out.

The original trophy, two plastic bowls painted green and blood red, was warn out beyond repair, so the one pictured here was purchased to replace it.

The Thursday after the game was decided, the looser would present the trophy to the winner, in dramatic fashion (see pictures from the 1978 presentation below).
