Cadet of the Year TrophyThis trophy is our corps’s most prestigious award. Listed above are 35 names of our corps best. As the Alumni it is our goal to honour those cadets and ask everyone to remember their cadet years and all the top cadets that they served with (just writing this article has brought back some wonderful memories). I hope seeing these names above makes you contact some of your old shipmates and relive those fond memories. I believe our cadet program has continued to make every cadet want to be the Cadet of the Year. Simply that is what our cadet program is about. It is very interesting to note that in some years there were two winners. It is also interesting to note the number of family siblings that won the award. And even more interestingly some cadets actually won it twice. Now from the history side, our trophy starts at 1972. I believe that the 1970 Cadet of the year was Steve McNair, and the 1971 Cadet of the Year was Brad Fry. I am trying to keep this history project as my limit, but I know that many of you before 1970 have names and would like to see those top cadets listed in our archive as well. Help me out here please forward me those names and we will start a separate list. We want to dig out some old trophies maybe we can get some there. Please contact me at johnjamieson@shaw.ca or call (204) 474-1699 with your comments. Also please remember to be as accurate as possible; I don’t want to embarrass anyone. I will end this now and would like to congratulate all of the former cadets that are listed above for being JTC Cadet of the Year. Well done.
Awarded to a cadet who demonstrates superior skills in all areas of training, drill, dress, and deportment. In addition, attendance, participation in extra activities, initiative, leadership and volunteer work are also considered.
