New Colours 1965

On February 15, 1965, "RCSCC John Travers Cornwell VC" received the honour of accepting, on behalf of the Sea Cadets of Canada, the new Sea Cadet colours and of retiring the "old" White Ensign that had flown in Sea Cad et establishments for many years. On this night, a forty-eight-man guard of honour, two four-man colour parties, and a thirty-five man brass band were officially paraded for the visiting dignitaries. On hand also were the hands of "RCSCC John Travers Cornwell VC". His Honour, Eric F. Willis, Lieutenant- Governor of Manitoba, was present as a representative of the Queen to present the new Maple Leaf Flag to the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets. The new Flag was ceremoniously accepted by our corps. Depicted in the photographs in this display is some of the pageantry of that momentous evening. On the left is the White Ensign of the Sea Cadets being born by PO1 H. Gholish, accompanied by L/C M. Rafferty and L/C S. MacRae in the ceremony "Retiring of the Ensign". To the right is the new Sea Cad et Colours, the Maple Leaf Flag after its acceptance, being carried by S/Lt A. Purslow accompanied by P02 B. Harrison and P02 F. Wright.
